Greene County Board of Supervisors Announces Hire of New County Administrator
Catherine (Cathy) Schafrik
The Greene County Board of Supervisors is pleased to announce the hire of Catherine (Cathy) Schafrik as the new County Administrator. The Board of Supervisors approved her hire following Closed Meeting at its May 9 meeting. The employment agreement is effective May 9, with Ms. Schafrik beginning her service on Monday, June 26.
Ms. Schafrik has worked for Fairfax County Government for the last twenty-eight years and brings a variety of experience and expertise to the job. She is currently serving as the Director of Human Resources for Fairfax County. Her work in Fairfax County has also included serving as the Deputy Director of Human Resources, a Division Director for the Department of IT, a Management Analyst for the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, a Budget Analyst in the Department of Management and Budget, and a Transportation Planner for the Department of Transportation. She is a trustee for both the Fairfax County Employees’ Retirement System Board and the Uniformed Retirement System Board. She is also a Board member of two non-profits, Volunteer Fairfax and Leadership Fairfax. Ms. Schafrik has earned Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Master of Public Administration Degrees, both from George Mason University, and a Master of Science in the Management of Information Systems Degree from the University of Virginia. She is a Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and holds the designation from the International Public Management Association as a Certified Professional (IPMA-CP).

Ms. Garton will continue to serve as the Interim County Administrator until Ms. Schafrik begins on June 26.
